This area displays the port of entry and the admission or adjustment date. The date is listed as year, month and day. In this example, the port of entry is Washington.
This area displays the expiration date. When the card expires, a new I-551 card will be issued. The expiration date does not indicate that the LPR status has expired, only that the card needs to be renewed.
The alien number is found on the front of the card. This displays the person's alien I.D. number.
This area contains the immigration code which denotes the person's immigration status. LPR codes are either 2 or 3 characters in length. Usually, they start with 1 or 2 letters of the alphabet followed by a number or numbers. In this example, the immigration status is P26, spouse of a permanent resident. Refer to the I-551 handout for additional codes.
