Referral to BRS

If the benefits paid by the policy are not more than two times the cost of the pro-rated premium for the same period, or you are unable to determine if cost effective, move to the fourth step of the DHS-2841E and fax the following information to the DHS Benefit Recovery Section (BRS) at 651-431-7431.

LTC insurance policy information that is currently paying benefits or in the elimination period. DHS Benefit Recovery Section staff will evaluate the other health care coverage information provided, then complete and send the Cost Effective Insurance Determination (DHS-2841C) to the financial worker. The fifth and final step from the DHS-2841E is for the financial worker to take action based on the BRS finding by notifying the client or the approval or denial and documenting actions in MAXIS case notes.

If the client has only dental/vision coverage available, submit the policy to BRS for review. Include any information regarding dental/vision needs. Do not exclude persons from enrollment in managed care if only receiving dental/vision coverage.
