Perpetuating Factors
There are also certain perpetuating factors to take into account. If a person is in a crisis, these things may prevent him/her from getting assistance.
- Negative coping patterns, i.e., hostile, no sense of humor
- Poor communication skills
- Low self –esteem
- Rugged individualism
- Anti-social behavior
- Drug, alcohol or gambling addiction
- Depression:
- Low mood that persists for more than two weeks
- Change in eating or sleeping habits
- An inability to enjoy anything
- Irritability
- A hopeless, helpless outlook
- Feeling guilty for no apparent reason
- Crying or weeping with little or no provocation
