Medicaid Rehabilitation Services

There are differences between rehabilitation services and other Medicaid reimbursed services.

Rehabilitation services:

• Can be delivered outside of licensed facilities
• May be delivered by non-licensed personnel
• Focus on restoration of function either through direct restoration, or by assisting the person in developing alternatives to the lost or impaired function 

NOTE: Non-licensed personnel MUST be supervised by a mental health professional.

Minnesota negotiated with CMS to define specific services and requirements under the rehabilitation option. Federal regulations, Minnesota state statutes, rules and policies govern their delivery and documentation. If there is a conflict in any of the regulations the federal regulations take precedence over state.
