New technology and expanded internet access makes it easier to access video interpreting services.

Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) allows people who are deaf or hard of hearing to communicate in ASL directly with people in the same location who do not communicate in ASL. The interpreter is not physically present. Instead, he or she provides ASL interpreting services through video conferencing or a videophone.

There is a fee for VRI services.
