A variety of organizations, such as Vision Loss Resources, are available to help people who are DeafBlind learn independent living skills.

Self-Sufficiency and Independence

Self-sufficiency is an important value for most people, including people who are DeafBlind. It’s important to remember that even mundane tasks, such as grocery shopping, require extra planning and will take longer for an individual who is DeafBlind to complete. Help from a trained Support Service Provider (SSP) can make these daily living activities much easier.

There are many organizations that support people who are DeafBlind to live independently. You will learn more about this in Module 6, Resources.
