Medical Spenddown and Designated Provider Option for MA-LTC

An MA-LTC client with a monthly medical spenddown may choose to use the designated provider option if he meets all of the following criteria:

• Does not receive services through MSHO or MnDHO.

• Has a recipient amount greater than $0.

• Has a health care expense from one provider that satisfies the entire recipient amount.

• Is willing to pay the recipient amount to the designated provider at the time the service is received.

Require clients choosing this payment option to complete and return the Request for Designated Provider Agreement (DHS-3161).
