Remedial Care Expense Deduction

The remedial care expense deduction allows Elderly Waiver clients to reduce their gross income using the remedial care expense when he or she resides in a residential living arrangement.
Definitions icon. Definition: Housing with services establishments such as a group residential housing (GRH), assisted living, board and lodge, and corporate and foster care settings that have a GRH arrangement with a county.
No verification of this expense is required.

This expense may be adjusted twice each year in January and July.  See EPM for changes in the expense amount.

For clients with a medical spenddown whose LTC expenses are privately paid: Allow the remedial care expense as a health care expense to meet the medical spenddown portion rather than a deduction on the LTC income calculation.  You will find that MAXIS supports this if coded correctly in STAT.  You will learn more about this in the MA-LTC Systems course.
