The person's immigration status is listed on the front of the card under "Category." It has a letter in caps followed by a number.
The alien number is listed on the front of the card.
In January 1997, USCIS began issuing a new Employment Authorization Document (I-766). While this document is being phased in, the existing EAD (I-688B) will continue to be issued, and both cards will remain in circulation.
