Use Sinclair’s case information to answer the following questions based on what you have learned about household size.

1. What is Sinclair’s MA household size for last month and MA-LTC household size for the current month?

Sinclair has a household size of 2, following basic MA household rules, for last month because he was not residing in an LTCF and his LTCC was completed on the first of the current month. MA-LTC services cannot begin prior to the date of the LTCC. Dion is not counted in Sinclair’s household size, only Mary.

Sinclair has a household size of 1 for the current month because his CADI services are anticipated to begin based on the LTCC completed on the first of this month.

2. What is Sinclair’s Medicare Savings Program (MSP) household size for last month and for the current month?

Because Sinclair is not eligible for Medicare until next year, he is not eligible for an MSP program. We do not need to determine his household size for an MSP program. Sinclair is not eligible for Medicare because, based on Sinclair’s SSA award letter; he has been receiving RSDI, disability benefits for less than one year and must receive these benefits for two years to be enrolled in Medicare.
