Asset Verification Examples

Example 1.

Susan requests MA-LTC on April 15 due to entering an LTCF on March 13. She is requesting one month of retroactive coverage.

Action.

Request asset verifications that include March 1, the first day of the first month for which coverage is requested.

Example 2.

Zach requests MA-LTC through the CADI on August 12. He is requesting three months of retroactive coverage. His case manager anticipates his EW services will begin upon approval of financial eligibility for MA-LTC.

Action.
Request asset verifications that include May 1, the first day of the first month for which coverage is requested.

Example 2 Continued.

Zach’s eligibility for basic MA and MA-LTC is being approved on September 12.

Action.
Use the May 1 asset verifications to determine asset eligibility for:

Basic MA for May through August.

MA-LTC for September – the month MA-LTC services are anticipated to begin.

Note: Other verifications would have been used if a change was reported between May 1 and approval of MA-LTC.
