Ending the LTC Income Calculation – Community Spouse

Elderly Waiver Example:

Lester, age 67, is an MA-LTC enrollee receiving services through the EW. He lives with his wife who does not receive waiver services. His EW services are ending on April 15.

End the LTC income calculation in April, the month Lester’s EW services are ending. Use community income calculation for May.

Note: If Lester’s EW was ending due to admission to an LTCF, the LTC income calculation would not end. People residing in an LTCF always use an LTC income calculation.

LTCF to Disability Waiver:

Althea, age 49, is an MA-LTC enrollee residing in an LTCF. She is being discharged on June 21 to her home where she will immediately begin receiving services through the BI waiver. Althea’s husband lives in the home with their 12-year-old daughter. Althea’s husband does not receive LTC services.

End the LTC income calculation in June, the month of Althea’s discharge from the LTCF. Although she will continue to receive LTC services, those services will be received through a disability waiver. People receiving services through a disability waiver use an MA Method ABD income calculation.
