Aid and Attendance
Veterans who are more seriously disabled may qualify for Aid and Attendance in addition to the Basic VA pension rate. This cash benefit provides assistance to veterans who require the support of another person to assist in their daily care needs.
Note: A veteran cannot receive both Aid and Attendance and Housebound benefits at the same time.
This benefit is also available to the surviving spouse or child of a veteran when a Death Benefit has been approved, and that person is in need of assistance with their daily care needs.
Be sure to refer an MA-LTC client who requires help with their daily care needs to the VA when a Basic VA Pension or VA Death benefit is received and ask them to apply for Aid and Attendance. A client must cooperate with the referral to continue MA-LTC eligibility.
