Building a working relationship with a client
Assessment is generally among the first activities of the case manager. In the initial phase of the assessment the case manager should:
- Engage the client to develop a relationship based on trust and support
- Introduce the purpose of the case management process
- Explain the purpose of assessment and engage the client’s participation
- Begin to evaluate the client’s current level of functioning
- Keep in mind that willingness to participate in the assessment process is the client’s choice.
