The “Other” domain can be used to cover a number of life areas and categories. These could include but are not limited to consumer’s status, functional description and the link to the mental illness in areas such as:

  • Adapting to a new culture
  • Adjusting to a major life transition such as death, marriage, birth, retirement, loss (or gain) of job
  • Dislocation
  • Language differences
  • Legal issues
  • Risk or safety
  • Sexual orientation
  • Spirituality
  • Transitioning into adulthood

What is critical is that an agency or program defines how the “Other” domain will be used. Ask your supervisor how your agency or program defines the “Other” category.
