Medical Spenddowns
Let’s first discuss medical spenddowns as they relate to MA-LTC. The Obligation Types (PDF) handouts provide a summary of the information discussed in this section.
A monthly medical spenddown is the result of using the MA Method ABD income calculation for:
- People requesting home and community-based services through a disability waiver (CAC, CADI, DD and BI).
- People requesting home and community-based services through the EW when their income is above the SIS and they do not have a community spouse.
People must meet the monthly spenddown amount to be eligible for MA-LTC.
