Functional description is just that. A detailed description of how the person functions in a particular domain. Functional description is absolutely value neutral and includes both the consumer’s strength of functioning as well as functional impairments and deficits. When assessing and documenting functional description, consider the “how” of the activities with a purpose around the domain. The functional description includes the observable, measurable details of how the consumer performs activities related to that domain.
