Eligibility Basics: MA vs MA-EPD

As you have just learned in this module, basic MA and MA-EPD have many things in common; however, there are several differences. Below is a comparison chart to help outline the similarities and differences between the two programs.

Bases of eligibility Children under 21, pregnant women, parents/caretakers, adults without children etc. Must be certified disabled and employed making over $65 per month.
Coverage Home care services, inpatient hospital services, medical equipment services, mental health services, personal assistance services, physical, occupational and speech therapy, physician and health clinic visits, prescription drugs. Same coverage as standard MA. MA-EPD also pays Medicare Part B premiums for those under 200% FPG.  
Income Guidelines Varies, but must be under 275% (with some exceptions). No limit.  
Asset Limit

Method A:
$10,000 for a household of 1
$20,000 for a household of 2+

Method B:
$3,000 for a household of 1
$6,000 for a household of 2
$2,00 for each additional member

$20,000 regardless of household size. No asset limit.
Premiums none Based on a sliding fee scale beginning at $35 per month unless a premium exemption is met.
