Beginning Waiver Services

The Community Income Calculation Changes When Waiver Services Begin or End (PDF) handout provides an overview of when to change a community income calculation from MA Method FCA to MA Method ABD.  Change the income calculation when:

• A person requests services through one of the disability waivers. Begin using the MA Method ABD income calculation the month in which the waiver services are anticipated to begin based on the Long Term Care Consultation (LTCC). Provide a 10-day notice if the spenddown amount is increased.

Example:

Remember! Do not change the income calculation to that used by an MA-LTC client if the client does not meet all other MA-LTC eligibility requirements.

• A person requests services through the Elderly Waiver (non-SIS-EW) who does not have a community spouse. Begin using the MA Method ABD income calculation in the month following the month in which the EW services anticipated to begin based on the LTCC.

Remember! SIS-EW clients, and non-SIS-EW clients with a community spouse, use an LTC income calculation.
