Describing function and link to mental illness
In addition to assessing the client’s status and function in each domain, the case manager needs to assess how the symptoms of the client’s mental illness interfere with functions and goals of the recipient. Mental illness symptoms do not necessarily interfere with the client’s functioning in all domains.
If a client has multiple health conditions or situations that may be interfering with their functioning, the functional assessment should distinguish which condition is causing/related which functional impairment.
