Step 2 – Determining the Total Annuity Payout

The second step, found back on the Actuarially Sound Determination (PDF) handout, is to determine the total annuity payout. Information needed to determine this figure is also a mandatory verification that may be found in the annuity contract or other annuity documentation.

There are three steps to determine the total annuity payout.

a. Determine the annual payment amount.

b. Determine the appropriate SSA Period Life Table life expectancy figure.

c. Multiply the annual payment amount (Step 2a) by the life expectancy figure (Step 2b).

The next several pages will go through the sub-steps of Step 2.
