G

Goals and Objectives

Develop and use strategies to reduce pacing when anxious.

I

Intervention

Demonstrated three ways to use distraction (tap wrist, blink, and sit down) as a coping skill when feeling anxious and pacing. Asked recipient to identify two more ways she could distract herself when feeling anxious.

R

Response

Recipient identified taking three deep breaths and humming You Are My Sunshine, as things that might also distract her. She practiced all five strategies by beginning to pace, stopping and applying the skill. She observed that the humming response was probably best used when she was by herself.

P

Plan

Recipient will continue to practice these five distraction skills and will keep a list of other strategies she thinks of. During the next session, we will review her list, and then role play situations that have made her anxious enough to pace in the past, so that she can practice linking the anxiety with the distraction skill.

S

Significant Observations

Recipient was stuttering today when talking about going back to school. She has not stuttered before when discussing this subject.
