Clinical supervision tasks and plans
Clinical supervision occurs at two levels: the care due to the client; and the responsibilities due to the supervisee.
Supervision tasks involve:
- Oversight of case management assessments, plans and services to the client.
- Training and assuring competency of supervisee.
- Consulting and supporting the supervisee.
- Administrative tasks.
A Clinical Supervision Plan, although not required, between the clinical supervisor and supervisee, can be a useful tool in clarifying clinical supervision roles; professional, legal, ethical considerations; expectations and responsibilities of each and documentation requirements. A plan is helpful in developing understanding and preventing and resolving supervision problems.
Your immediate supervisor may or may not be your clinical supervisor. Supervision and clinical supervision roles and responsibilities should be clear to all parties.
