What is an LTCF?

A long-term care facility (LTCF) includes any of the following:

A skilled nursing facility (SNF).

Definition: A skilled nursing facility (SNF) is an institution primarily engaged in providing skilled nursing care and related services that are above the level of room and board. Because of mental or physical conditions, residents require medical or nursing care, which is available to them only through institutional facilities.

A medical hospital, but only when the person receives skilled nursing services while hospitalized.

An Intermediate Care Facility for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (ICF/DD).

FYI: People residing in non-Medicaid certified facilities [such as a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) facility] are residing in the community for MA eligibility purposes even though these facilities are LTCFs.
