Minnesota Vulnerable Adults Act (Minn. Statutes 626.557)
The Minnesota Vulnerable Adult Act identifies the basic protections for vulnerable adults in Minnesota. Case managers are mandated to report suspected maltreatment of vulnerable adults.
A vulnerable adult is someone 18 years of age or older who:
- Is a resident or patient of a facility ( for example, nursing home or community service center )
- Is a recipient of services at or from a program required to be licensed pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 245A (Human Services Licensing Act - HSLA) (for example, group living home, supported employment)
- Is unable or unlikely to report abuse or neglect without assistance because of impairment of mental or physical function or emotional status, regardless of residence (different bill of rights/protections may apply).
