Training Cases

To which of our five cases in our training caseload do we need to apply the Home Equity Limit?

Apply the Home Equity Limit when determining MA-LTC eligibility for Emily; she has ownership interest in her home (in which she resided immediately prior to receiving LTC services) and an exception to the home equity limit is not met.

Do not apply the limit to:

• Padma and Sinclair because they and their spouses live in their homes, which meets the dependent relative exception and the client exception to the home equity limit.
• Isabella and Andreas because they do not have ownership interest in their home.

Using the verifications provided in the training case packet (printed earlier in this course), determine if the Home Equity Limit requirement is met for each case in which it applies. Check your answer when you are finished.

Emily has satisfied the Home Equity Limit requirement. Based on the property search result provided, Emily’s home equity is below the current limit found in Appendix F.

To Do: Be sure to update the Home Equity Limit section of each case’s MA-LTC Case Checklist (DHS-5590) found on page two with the information you just reviewed.
