1. What is a managed care health plan?

A managed care organization (MCO), contracted by the State of Minnesota, which offers health care products to people enrolled in Minnesota’s health care programs. Examples of managed care health plans available in the state are Blue Plus and UCare.

2. What is a managed care product?

A general health care benefit set that all health plans may offer. Products are benefit packages for various groups of people with like demographics. Examples of managed care products include MSHO, MSC+ and SNBC.

3. In what manual can you find information about Minnesota’s managed care plans, products and processes?

Prepaid Minnesota Health Care Programs Manual (PMHCP).

4. What are the advantages of an MA-LTC client participating in a Medicare Advantage - Special Needs (SNP) managed care plan?

An SNP, a special type of managed care product that provides more focused health care for specific groups of people, provides better coordination between Medicare and MA services and simplifies access of services through both programs by aligning care. An SNP also provides additional assessment and care planning.
