LTC Spenddown

The LTC spenddown amount is the income remaining after completing the LTC income calculation. People are obligated to contribute the LTC spenddown amount toward the cost of LTC services when they reside in an LTCF or are an EW client (non-SIS-EW) with a community spouse.

MMIS Note:

In MMIS the “original spenddown amount” is the client’s gross income before deductions. The amount remaining after deductions are applied is the client “recipient amount.” In the online policy courses, the recipient amount is referred to as the LTC spenddown amount.

Example:

Larry resides in an LTCF. Larry’s gross income before applying deductions is $2,300. He has $1,300 of income remaining after completing the LTC income calculation.

Action:

Calculate Larry’s LTC spenddown amount to be $1,300. In MMIS, his “original spenddown amount“ is $2,300 and his “recipient amount” is $1,300.
