Medical Spenddown for Long-Term Care
The next type of client obligation is the medical spenddown met with LTC costs which will be paid by the enrollee.
This spenddown type uses an LTC spenddown in conjunction with a medical spenddown when a person’s cost of care is less than their LTC spenddown amount. The client is responsible for both the LTC spenddown amount and the medical spenddown amount. Previously these were called "combination LTC/medical spenddowns."
People who have only an LTC spenddown and whose cost of care is less than that spenddown amount must use a medical spenddown. This includes:
- People residing in an LTCF.
- People requesting services through the EW who have a community spouse and whose income is greater than the SIS.
The Obligation Types (PDF) handouts provide a summary of the information discussed in this section.
