Qualified Partnership Policy

As you’ve learned, an MA-LTC client can only protect assets if a qualified LTCP policy has paid for LTC services. What is a qualified Partnership policy?

Thankfully, you don’t have to worry about reviewing a policy to see if it qualifies as a Partnership policy! You will submit LTC insurance policies to HealthQuest when an MA-LTC client reports having LTC insurance.

DHS staff, in cooperation with the insurance company, will determine if the policy is qualified. If the policy is a qualified Partnership policy they will determine the amount of LTC benefits that have been paid for the person. Even if a policy has been determined cost-effective, and the premium is being paid for the client, it can still be considered a qualified Partnership policy.

Since you do not need to determine whether an LTC insurance policy is qualified, we will not be reviewing the criteria used to determine if a policy is qualified. The process of submitting an LTC insurance policy to HealthQuest will be discussed later in this course.
