Optional Assignments for MH-TCM Module 1

Optional assignments will be found at the end of each of the modules in this curriculum. Optional assignment completion can count toward the 40-hours of training required of some new case managers.  If document and retain documentation of completion of optional assignments if you intend to apply toward the 40-hours of training required.

1. Read and review the Minnesota Comprehensive Adult Mental Health Act and discuss with your supervisor (2 hours).

In your Training Curriculum Log, record the dates of your review and discussion of the Minnesota Comprehensive Adult Mental Health Act and your supervisor’s sign off.

2. Identify and create a list of the providers of each of the listed array of mental health services in your local and/or regional adult mental health system (1-5 hours).   

Identify service type, name of provider agencies, addresses, phones, contact persons, e-mail addresses and brief comments on referral process.

Identify any service that does not exist in the county and/or area in which your case management agency provides MH-TCM services. Can your recipients access these services within your region?  Review the list for accuracy and make additions after consulting with your supervisor and other case managers. Discuss the frequency of use and quality and characteristics of agencies providing these services. 

In your Training Curriculum Log, record dates of completion of this resource contact list; discussion with MH-TCM co-workers and supervisor’s sign off.

3. Review the profiles of the three hypothetical mental health recipients Maria, Paul and Hassan and the eligibility criteria for adult MH-TCM (1 hour).

Write a response to the following questions.

  1. Do these individuals appear to meet the eligibility criteria for adult MH-TCM? 
  2. Which of the criteria for eligibility does each individual meet?
  3. Is eligibility unclear for any of these individuals based on information provided?
  4. What additional information what you like to know?

In your Training Curriculum Log, record dates of completion of your written responses. Discuss and obtain a sign-off from your supervisor.

Retain your log as proof of completion of MH-TCM Module 1.
