Verification

Part of a complete application or request is providing mandatory verification. In addition to all basic MA mandatory verifications, verifications specific to MA-LTC must be submitted prior to determining eligibility for MA-LTC.

Below is a general list of additional verifications needed for MA-LTC. More information about verifications will be provided throughout the LTC/Waivers course sequencing. Click on the links provided to learn more about the verification needed.

Proof that an institutional level of care is required.

A home’s fair or estimated market value.
The fair or estimated market value (FMV or EMV) of a home is used to determine if the home equity limit requirement has been met. If the home’s FMV or EMV exceeds the current home equity limit found in Appendix F then encumbrances must also be verified. More information about the home equity limit will be provided in the LTC Assets course of the LTC/Waivers course sequencing.

Additional details regarding an annuity
More information about the client's or spouse's interest in an annuity is needed to determine if DHS must be designated as a preferred remainder beneficiary on the annuity, as well as to determine whether an uncompensated transfer has occurred. Details about transfers.
Verification needed regarding a transfer depends on the type of transfer made. This verification is used to determine whether an uncompensated transfer has occurred and if a transfer penalty must be applied. More information about transfers is provided in the MA-LTC Transfers course.

Income and expenses
Verification of a spouse’s or other family member’s income and expenses may be needed when the client is allocating his or her income to another person.
