Medical Spenddown

Now that you have read a brief overview of two obligation payment options, we can now look at what payment options are available based on the client’s obligation type. We’ll start with MA-LTC clients using a medical spenddown.

These clients receive services through one of the disability waivers or the EW, have income greater than the SIS and do not have a community spouse.

MA-LTC clients have three payment options available:

Potluck Processing.

Client Option Spenddown.
Enrollees in Minnesota Senior Health Options (MSHO) who elect the client option spenddown are already billed directly by DHS. They can choose to pay their spenddown either through direct billing or the client option. More information about MSHO is provided in the Service Delivery for MA-LTC course.
Other MA-LTC clients using a monthly medical spenddown may also choose to use this payment option.
