Partnership Policy – Step 4
After the client has protected assets, you will be able to process MA-LTC eligibility (deny or approve) if eligibility has not yet been determined.
- If protecting assets reduces the client’s asset total to within the MA asset limit, you can approve eligibility or apply a transfer penalty as needed.
- If protecting assets does not reduce the asset total to within the MA asset limit, allow the client to reduce assets following basic MA policy.
- Then, after allowing the client to reduce assets, if the client continues to have excess assets, deny MA and payment of LTC services. The designation of protected assets is void.
- If the client has no asset limit, case note protected asset information following the LTCP process and approve eligibility.
There is specific notice text to use in these situations. The text you send to the client is found on the LTCP Notice Text (PDF) handouts. Update worker comments if a MAXIS notice is being sent.
