Introduction to Long-Term Care Facilities and Waivers

What is the BI Waiver?

Hospital clinic.

The Brain Injury (BI) (formerly TBI - Traumatic Brain Injury) waiver funds home and community-based services for children and adults who have an acquired, traumatic, or degenerative brain injury or impairment and are determined to need an institutional level of care (LOC) or neurobehavioral hospital (NB).

The BI waiver is administered by the DHS Disability Services Division and executed through their county social services, public health managed care plan, or through some tribal health and human services agencies.
