Citizenship and Identity

People claiming to be U.S. citizens must document their U.S. citizenship and their identity, unless an exemption is met. Basic MA policy instructs you to request verification of citizenship and identity, when required, and ask that it is returned within 60 days. Approve eligibility, if all other requirements are met, while documentation is pending. If verification is not received within 60 days, send a second request allowing an additional 30 days.

Exemptions:

Are enrolled or entitled to enroll in Medicare.

Receive or previously received Supplemental Security Income (SSI). This can be determined by sending a SVES query.

Receive or previously received RSDI due to a disability. There are several ways to verify RSDI disability payment including obtaining a copy of the most recent award letter, checking MAXIS BNDX for disability, or by contacting the Social Security Administration (SSA).

Are eligible to receive foster care or IV-E adoption assistance.

Are an auto-newborn for MA or MCRE.
