Child or Grandchild
An LTCF resident’s homestead may be excluded as long as it is the residence of the LTCF resident’s adult child or grandchild who meets both of the following requirements:
- Provides a statement indicating the child or grandchild lived in the home for at least two years immediately before the client's admission to the LTCF.
- Provides a physician's statement verifying that the child or grandchild provided care permitting the client to live at home instead of in an LTCF.
Note: If Brenda had moved into Gary’s homestead only a year prior to Gary’s admittance to the LTCF, you would count the equity value of the homestead toward the asset total, unless another exception was met.
