Beginning/Ending the Family Allocation

Before reviewing the family allocation calculations, let’s discuss when to begin and end allowing the family allocation deduction. A summary of this information can be found on the Family Allocation (PDF) handouts.

Beginning and ending a family allocation is similar to beginning and ending a community spouse allocation.

Beginning the family allocation.

Use the family allocation deduction in a month when all of the following factors are met:

An LTC income calculation is being used.
There is a family member who is eligible to receive an allocation at any time during the month.
The allocation calculation results in the family member having a need for an allocation.

Ending the family allocation.
