Calculation 2 – Family Living with Community Spouse

The second family allocation calculation is completed when a child or other allowable family member lives with the community spouse. Unlike in the last calculation, a separate determination is made for each family member.

Remember! Verification of the family member’s income is required before an allocation can be used. Unlike Calculation 1, you can determine an allocation for individual family members who provide verification of their income when other family members do not provide verification of their income.

Step 1: Determine the family member’s total monthly income.

Step 2: Subtract the family member’s total monthly income from the community spouse minimum monthly income allowance.

Remember, the current community spouse minimum monthly income allowance is found in Appendix F in the EPM.

Step 3: Determine the family member’s allocation amount.

To determine the family member’s allocation amount, divide the result of Step 2 by 3. Round to the nearest dollar. No allocation is allowed if the result is less than or equal to $0.

Example:

Again, unlike with the community spouse allocation, MAXIS does not calculate this allocation. You must manually enter only the allocation amount. Add all Calculation 1 and Calculation 2 amounts together and enter the total allocation amount in MAXIS.
