Process Steps 8 and 9 

Step 8 instructs you to create two DAIL/TIKL reminders:

• One to remember to carry forward medical expenses when approving a new certification period for a client who is exempt from a six-month renewal. 

• Another to follow-up on the request for actual third party payments made on an expense for which you allowed an estimated amount as a medical expense deduction.

Step 9 instructs you to complete the process at renewal.  At renewal, you must review the remaining expenses that can be used as a deduction. 

• Do not require updated verification of the medical expense.

Exception. If none of the allowable medical expenses could be deducted because there was no available income, request current verification before allowing expenses to be carried forward into the next certification period. Only allow these expenses to carry forward if the enrollee is still obligated to pay the expense.

• Update the Medical Expense Tracking Worksheet for the LTC Income Calculation (DHS-6059B).
