Ending an LTC Income Calculation
When to end the LTC income calculation also depends on whether or not the client has a community spouse, unless the LTC income calculation is ending due to the client’s death. A summary of the information provided below can also be found on the handout, Ending an LTC Income Calculation (PDF).
Never make income calculation changes until the change occurs.
- No Community Spouse with No LTC Services immediately After.
- When your client is in a LTCF, end the LTC income calculation the month before the client is discharged from the LTCF.
- When your client is on SIS-EW, end the LTC income calculation the month before SIS-EW services end.
- When your client is on non-SIS-EW, continue to use the MA community budget
- No Community Spouse with Disability Waiver Services Immediately After
- When your client is in a LTCF, end the LTC income calculation in the month before the client is discharged from the LTCF.
- When your client is on SIS-EW, end the LTC income calculation the month SIS-EW services end.
- When your client is on non-SIS-EW, continue to use the MA community budget.
- No Community spouse with Elderly Waiver Services Immediately After
- When your client is in a LTCF or is requesting SIS-EW Services, end the LTC income calculation in the month before discharge from the LTCF.
- When your client is in a LTCF and will be receiving SIS-EW Services and remains to have no community spouse, you will end the LTC income calculation in the month before discharge from the LTCF
- When your client is in a LTCF and will be receiving SIS-EW Services and has since gotten married so now has a community spouse, you will end the LTC income calculation the month of discharge to the LTCF.
- When your client is in a LTCF, has a community spouse, but is now over the SIS-EW, continue the LTC income calculation.
- When your client is receiving SIS-EW services and becomes married, now is over the SIS-EW amount, continue to the LTC income calculation.
- No Community spouse with LTCF Immediately After
- When your client is in a LTCF, continue the LTC income calculation.
- When your client is on SIS-EW, continue the LTC income calculation.
- When your client is on non-SIS-EW, continue the community budget until LTC Income calculation begins. See the Beginning a LTC Income Calculation Chart.
- Community Spouse. End the LTC income calculation in the month of discharge from an LTCF or in which EW services end, when the client has a community spouse. Use the most appropriate community income calculation to determine ongoing eligibility.
- Death. When an LTCF or EW client dies, use an LTC income calculation through the month of death whether or not there is a community spouse.
